《植物学报》是由中国科学院植物研究所和中国植物学会主办的学术期刊。主要刊登植物学各学科(包括与植物学有关的农林、医药基础理论研究和有重要应用价值的应用基础研究)有创新的英文原始研究论文和快讯,并发表植物科学重要领域的国内外最新进展的综述文章。
在我国几代植物学家、历届编委会和编辑部的共同努力下，经过50年的历程,《植物学报》已成为国内外生物学期刊中较为活跃的和有影响的期刊。特别是在改革开放以来，《植物学报》不因循守旧,瞄准国际期刊先进水平，不断地改革和进取，为其国际化发展打下了良好的基础。
《植物学报》创刊于1952年,1953年改为季刊,1981年改为双月刊, 1989年改为月刊。1995年开始接受刊出英文文章。1999年改为大16开本。 2000年改为图版随文。2001年改为正文全铜版纸彩印，112 页，彩色封面。2002年改为全英文出版，128页。
《植物学报》被国外44种检索系统、国内19种数据库和文摘刊物收录。
《植物学报》对外发行7个国家和2个地区,对外交换近40个国家。《植物学报》在国内总被引次数及影响因子近几年来呈上升趋势；总被引次数由1997年的1138上升到 2002年的2927；影响因子由1997年0.636上升到2002年的 0.904；总被引频次在生物学类期刊中历年均排第一。《植物学报》1998年进入 SCI Search，2000年的JCR影响因子为0.434，在ISI收录的137种植物科学期刊中排名第99位。在中国被ISI收录的47种自然科学期刊中名列第11位。
